Mark Entwistle is Managing Partner of Acasta Cuba Capital (www.acastacc.com), a specialist Cuba business group established by Acasta Capital, a merchant bank based in Toronto, Canada, of which he is a founding partner (www.acastacapital.com). Called “the leading Canadian expert on Cuba” in the newspaper The Globe and Mail, Mark has spent 23 years engaged directly in Cuban affairs and Cuba business, with real experience in the field doing real business. He was formerly the Ambassador of Canada to Cuba, has lived and worked in Cuba for a number of years and currently travels to Cuba constantly, where he is involved in numerous businesses and maintains extensive relationships. He writes on Cuba and speaks frequently about Cuba to business audiences in the United States.
Mark was awarded the rare “Medal of Friendship” by the Republic of Cuba in 1997 as he was leaving his mission as Ambassador in recognition of his personal contribution to strengthening the bilateral relationship between Canada and Cuba. He received the prestigious Saul Hayes Award for Human Rights from the Canadian Jewish Congress for his support to the Cuban Jewish community.
Mark has also been previously a career Canadian diplomat for 16 years, serving in Israel and the former Soviet Union, Press Secretary and communications director to the Prime Minister of Canada, Chief of Staff to the leader of a major national political party in Canada and former Prime Minister, senior aide for parliamentary affairs to the Canadian Foreign Minister and official media spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs of Canada.
